Training session number five

20 lengths in 35 minutes.  May not sound like a lot to you, but it's a helluva achievement to me!

Training Session number 4

Yes, I'm still trying.  I'm doing okay, although I still don't get how other people just seem to swim on and on and on without getting breathless.  I myself do get breathless, and according to my training schedule, that is a GOOD THING.

I've now manged to swim almost a kilometre in the Caribbean Sea, as you can see from my updated map:

I'll be spending sometime in Chevy's calypso Bar and Grill, methinks.  I deserve it.

As soon as my kit is dry, however, I'll be off again.

P.S.  I did fourteen lengths today.  Forgot to mention that.

Training Session 3

You know that advert that used to be on TV a few years back?  The one where the athlete talks about Positive Mental Attitude (PMA)?

Well, I had to apply some serious PMA for my third training session, after the disappointment of training session number 2.

I went to the swimming pool at ten o'clock on Saturday morning, for the public swim session which immediately followed 'Junior Lessons', thinking that all the juniors would then go with their mummies and daddies to Macdonalds or somewhere.

Wrong!  I walked straight back out again, once I saw the queue to actually get into the pool.  That was where the PMA came in.  'Not to worry,' I told myself 'just come back for the last public swim of the day at about 6 o'clock.  All the families should by then be at home eating pizza and watching Doctor Who.'

Wrong!  At six o'clock they were still there in their droves, but - and this is where the PMA comes in - I told myself to stop f***ing around, and just get on with it.

Bingo!  Ten lengths.  Not easy.  Had to circumnavigate lots of little people.  Had to apply breathing techniques to stop the panic rising.  Ten lengths.  Result.

second training session

Well, the second training session did not go too well, I'm afraid.  Only six lengths today.  In my defense, there was actually a LESSON for children going on at the same time as a PUBLIC swim session.  That can't be right, can it?  Children jumping in the deep end and swimming along to the shallow end BESIDE THE EDGE  when people like me (well, just me really) need to be near the edge just in case.....

I can log my swims on the internet, and can choose to log them via a map.  I chose the Caribbean, because I've never actually been there.

If you look carefully, with your glasses on, you might spot me, off the Island  of St Kitt's.

Here's a closer look:

No, I'm not the Blue line, I'm the GREEN one.  If you can't spot me, try this version:

I think I've made it out of the harbour, into open sea.

I'm REALLY scared now.

Training session 1

Could have been better.  Could have been worse.  8 lengths in half an hour.  I'm thinking not bad for someone pushing sixty who hasn't swum for twenty odd years.  I'm pretty sure that was not what the lifeguard was thinking.....
